On the Way to Primrose Hill

I was on my way to Primrose Hill in London to watch the sunset but it was taking longer than expected. I paused briefly to take this photo of a quiet street on the way and it turned out being better than the actual photos from Primrose Hill. I guess life really is all about the journey rather than the destination. 🙂

Liverpool Street Station

The more I travel the more I fall in love with trains. Stations are a breeze compared to airports and it’s a nice feeling to just sit back and enjoy the scenery for a few hours. This photo is from Liverpool Street station, I’m here in London for a few days before moving on to Iceland!

London, on a Good Day

London has been a wonderful base to experience a European summer and I was lucky enough to time it perfectly with the Olympics. Although I didn’t take any photos of Olympic action I had an incredible time and it was great to see the British people support the event with such enthusiasm and class. I thought I’d put together some of my favourite photos from my London adventure to help relive the good times. There are so many great landmarks and attractions here with everything from the Tower Bridge to Big Ben, the Shard, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the Gherkin, Wimbledon, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and so much more all just a short trip on the Underground from each other. Thanks for the memories London, on a good day you can’t be beaten.

An Evening on the Thames Embankment

As an unabashed tourist I spent a lot of time on the Thames Embankment taking photos of touristy things. This shot was taken on a gorgeous evening from the Golden Jubilee Bridge and is one of my favourites.

Hammersmith Bridge at Night

Low foggy clouds at night plus high tide and a longish exposure equals a rather outrageous photo of the Hammersmith Bridge over the Thames River in London. It’s certainly doesn’t look like any other photo I’ve taken before so chalk one up for experimentation!

An Eye to Another World

I’ve taken about a million photos of the London Eye but I think I have a new favourite! I love the clouds in this shot, like the Eye is a window to another world (deep Rene, very deep).

Meet Me at Horse Guards Parade

Meet me at horse guards parade, that’s what I was thinking when I saw these two people walking towards each other in front of the setting sun. I don’t know who they are but I like to think it’s an important moment in their lives, like a pivotal scene in some rom-com starring Hugh Grant and Renee Zellweger. I threw a filter on it and the intense sun rays created a cool lens flare that makes it look a little like I used a fisheye lens, yay for accidentally awesome lens flares!

Tower Bridge in London

Landmarks don’t come much more photogenic than the Tower Bridge in London. Crossing the River Thames, it is a suspension bridge with a handy drawbridge that allows boats to pass through. It really is a must see while in London and I’m surprised it took me this long to take some photos of it.

Dr Who Phone Booth

I don’t remember specifically what a Dr Who phone booth looks like but that’s what I thought of when I saw this one along the Thames Embankment. I imagine Daleks were attacking the London Eye or something like that.

Red Skies Over St Paul’s Cathedral

There was a thick covering of low cloud over London when I took this shot of St Paul’s Cathedral and after playing around a bit I decided it looked best with a red tint. I thought it was kinda cool but I’ve since been told that it looks like the devil’s work…

A Residential Street in London

Taken on a drizzly night near my place in Hammersmith, this is what a typical residential street looks like in London. This information may or may not have changed your life.

Drama Over the Houses of Parliament

I headed to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament demanding drama and that’s exactly what I got as dark clouds rolled in over the River Thames.

Japan Matsuri at Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square was busy today playing host to the Japan Matsuri, a festival held in London every year to celebrate all things Japanese. I lived in Japan for 2 years so it was fun to head along and be a little bit Japanese again. Naturally I headed straight for the food stalls and grabbed myself a healthy serving of okonomiyaki, mmm. I also met up with some friends, watched some performances and took a few snaps, including this one that’s all up in your grill right about…..now.

Sunset Through the London Eye

Sometimes the gods of photography are kind to you, today they were kind to me. I arrived just in time to watch sunset through the London Eye, with some nice fluffy clouds along for the ride too.

Buckingham Palace

I couldn’t come to London and not visit Buckingham Palace! I got there just as the sun was going down and I think it looks pretty cool with this funky filter, lovely jubbly.

Putney Bridge Lights

If you catch the Putney Bridge lights in London just as they turn on in the early evening they look kinda psychedelic against the blue backdrop. It’s a really simple photo but I think it’s becoming one of my favourites.

Big Ben from All Angles

Why take one photo of Big Ben when you can take a million from all different angles? Because that would be impractical, that’s why. Instead I chose to take 5, I admit that they’re all pretty similar but c’mon, it’s Big Ben! One of London’s most beloved landmarks.

Sunset on the Thames River in Hammersmith

It was such gorgeous evening I decided to grab my camera and go for a walk along the Thames River in Hammersmith. The sun looked amazing as it set over the water and there were plenty of people out and about to enjoy it. It’s not often you get a perfect evening like this in London so you’ve got to make the most of it!

Wimbledon Quarter Finals

Back in London just in time to catch some tennis! Centre court tickets at Wimbledon are pretty hard to come by but if you’re willing to line up for 6 or 7 hours (which can be surprisingly fun) you can usually score some sweet resale tickets. It proved to be my lucky day as I got to see Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga battle it out in glorious summer sunshine, Pimm’s anyone?

A Day of Cricket at Lords

Today was my first ever trip to the Lords cricket ground, the spiritual home of cricket. I went with my aunt to watch the final day of the test between England and the West Indies. As a cricket fan it was a pretty special experience and would you believe that they even let us on to the field during a break in play! Awesome. Thanks to the random stranger who took this nice pic for us. England won the game by the way, oh and I’m also in London at the moment (which your intuition may have already told you).
