Drifting Through the Night

I make lots of little mistakes on my travels but in a way I kind of like it! A lot of my favourite moments happen by accident so I’ve learned to embrace an element of randomness. Which brings me here, to the side of a winding road somewhere in the Faroes. I’m on an island named Vagar, it’s getting late and my destination is further away than I thought, but man, it’s just awesome out here!

Gásadalur and the Mulafossur Waterfall

Gasadalur is one of the coolest places I’ve ever been! Up until 10 years ago the only way you could get to this little village (of about 20 people) was to climb over a mountain! There’s a tunnel now but the views from the mountain path are amazing so it’s definitely worth the extra effort. What makes this secret little spot even more magical is the incredible Mulafossur waterfall that greets you on arrival, so much awesome!

The Floating Island of Mykines

The Faroe Archipelago is full of geological wonders that I couldn’t have even imagined until I saw them with my own eyes! I got a great view of the westernmost island of Mykines while hiking to the village of Gásadalur, it looked so distinct, like it was a floating island that would have moved on if I came back the next day. Which makes me think about the flying island of Laputa from Gulliver’s Travels, love that book!

Oh Hai There!

I stumbled upon this friendly fella while on a hike here in the Faroe Islands. We talked about cheese prices, Nash equilibriums and the state of dairy farming before going our separate ways. These things happen when you’re traveling alone in the middle of nowhere (and already a little cray-cray)…

Nolsoy Across the Sea

Surprisingly, the Faroe Islands are made up of a number of islands. One of the smaller ones is Nolsoy and it’s only a short ferry ride from the main town of Torshavn so I cruised over there yesterday to see what all the fuss is about! There’s a little community down one end and then a long walk through grasslands to a picturesque lighthouse. I’ll talk more about the hike another day but it was a memorable one and highly recommended if you happen to be over here! I took this photo of Nolsoy while on the ferry, hopefully it does justice to the gorgeous views here!

Grass Roof Homes in the Faroe Islands

Wow I LOVE the houses here in the Faroe Islands! Especially these ones with grass roofs! There’s a whole bunch of them near the harbour in Torshavn (where I found this beauty). They’re so quaint and charming, wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all had grass roof homes? Yes is the answer, now if I can just work out how to get up there for a picnic…

Hello from the Faroe Islands!

I’m here in the Faroe Islands for about a week, doing what exactly you ask? I HAVE NO IDEA! Haha! Definitely a few hikes, and maybe some exploring, yes lots of exploring! Anyway I’m staying in Torshavn and the people have been super-duper nice so far! I took this photo on a little walk through the town after settling in, this is gonna be fun!
